This is used on any light stand or standard 5/8-in (16mm) baby pin for versatility and ease of use. This yoke features an umbrella holder and two Profoto™-style rings and mounting points for a 4-point softbox.
The key features of this bracket and yoke is that it holds two lights, accepts an umbrella, and is compatible with standard softboxes. Let’s take a look.
Here the receiver is blocked by the set screw. Loosen this knob.
Now the receiver is free and will fit on the stud.
The receiver goes on the stud or light stand.
Turn the knob CW to secure the receiver on the stud or light stand.
Let’s add a light! Any C-series or CX-series will work.
This is the lock ring.
Open the lock ring on the Profoto™-style ring.
Insert the light into the Protofo™-style ring.
Don’t let go of the fixture until the lock ring is set. This is the lock ring in the secure position.
Two lights are better than one. Let’s go.
Insert the fixture.
Keep a hand on the fixture until you’ve secured the lock ring.
Here the Profoto™-style clamp is set and the light is secure.
How deep these fixture are set is up to you but generally you will want them flush with the face of the bracket.
To rotate the light on the horizontal axis you need to loosen this nut again.
Loosen the receiver knob so let the yoke spin freely on the stud.
You can rotate the yoke freely when the ?” stud receiver knob is loose. Keep a hand on it until you’ve retightened that knob.
You can adjust the vertical orientation by loosening the kip handle.
Loosen the kip handle and hang on the bracket.
Keep a hand on the light or the bracket until you’ve tightened the kip handle.
Now let’s try an umbrella. Any standard photo umbrella will work. The light is very cool and will not damage umbrellas.
Here is the umbrella receiver.
Loosen the knurled nut so the shaft of the umbrella can pass through freely.
Tighten the knurled nut. Do not overtighten to avoid damaging your umbrella.
Two lights give you much higher output and the bracket spreads that light very evenly.
Now let’s try a softbox. There are receiver ports on the bracket.
Two receiver ports on the bottom.
Here we have a small Chimera™ softbox but most standard softboxes will work.
Most standard softbox poles will fit.
Insert the poles into the receivers.
Ensure those poles are snug.
Secure the velcro flaps to black any light leakage.
The result is very bright and even. The double bracket makes larger softboxes more useful.
